The Jordan Dates Association (JODA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Directorate of Plant Protection and Health, organized a workshop on Sunday, February 1, 2026, to present the results of field surveys conducted by the association in the Southern Ghor region as part of the project to evaluate the national strategy for combating the red palm weevil.

The workshop was opened by the Director of the Southern Ghor Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Raeda Al-Maayta, and the President of the Jordan Dates Association (JODA), Engineer Anwar Haddad. The Directorate of Plant Protection and Health at the Ministry of Agriculture presented the national plan for combating the red palm weevil, the ministry’s strategy for controlling the Indian red palm weevil, and the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), as well as prevention and early detection procedures.

The project team from the Jordan Dates Association (JODA) also presented the results of the field surveys conducted in previous periods to determine the current situation in the Southern Ghor region regarding the red palm weevil infestation, the infestation rates, and the effectiveness of the national plan’s activities. The participants stressed the importance of strengthening coordination between the concerned authorities and unifying efforts to protect the palm sector and reduce the spread of pests, which contributes to supporting the sustainability of agricultural production of dates in various regions of the Kingdom. The association, as a representative of the date palm sector in the Kingdom, also stressed the importance of cooperation of all parties to achieve the desired goals of developing and protecting the palm sector at the national level.
