The Jordan Dates Association (JODA) organized a panel discussion on preparations to confront climate change in the fruit palm sector in light of the continuous rise in temperatures during this season. The association hosted Professor Dr. Abdel Baset Ibrahim, professor of plant physiology and international expert in the field of palm trees, during his visit to Amman. The symposium was attended by a number From palm growers, experts and interested parties, the symposium concluded with the most important recommendations as follows:
1- It is preferable to expedite the process of bagging palm trees, especially the branches of the first floor facing the sun’s rays, to avoid damage from ultraviolet rays.
2-Regular irrigation and increasing its quantities, which compensates for excess evaporation and transpiration during the heat wave and returns to normal rates after that.
3-It is preferable that irrigation be during the early morning or late evening hours.
4-Avoid fertilizing during this period.
5-Avoid spraying chemical pesticides, and if necessary, it is preferable to use organic pesticides or those extracted from plant extracts, such as neem oil.
6-Work to dangle the stems below the level of the fronds to benefit from the shade as much as possible
7-Avoid touching palm fruits during the noon hours, and field operations should be carried out in the early morning as much as possible
The Jordan Dates Association organized a training course on agricultural operations in palm orchards for three senior agricultural engineers from the State of Eritrea through a cooperation agreement with the International Food and Agriculture Organization office in the Eritrean capital over the past two weeks at the association’s headquarters. A group of lecturers from university professors and local experts in Jordan presented lectures that included establishing palm orchards and various agricultural operations according to the highest standards until after the harvest. The program also included field visits to palm farms and manual and automated date workshops, and learning about textile production techniques at the National Center for Agricultural Research.
Certificates were distributed to the trainees and they were honored in the presence of members of the Board of Directors at the association’s headquarters in Amman. The trainees confirmed their admiration and appreciation for the depth of the Jordanian experience and the importance of knowledge in this sector.
The association will continue to work to transfer this sector and Jordanian dates to the international level with the energy of its members and experts working in it
Meeting of date packing and packaging companies
The Jordanian Dates Association held a meeting for its members from date packing, packaging and sorting companies on Tuesday, 5/23/2023, with the aim of reaching consensus on many principles related to the working relationship between palm growers and these companies and workshops. Spending has been made on a set of items that regulate this relationship and will be approved. To be part of the contracts concluded between farmers and sorting, packing and packaging centers to reduce the multiplicity of references based on this consensus.

JODA في المؤتمر الدولي الأول لإنتاج وتجارة التمور الذي نظمته جائزة خليفة الدولية لنخيل التمر والابتكار الزراعي في قصر الإمارات بأبو ظبي مع جمعية تنمية وتطوير الصادرات البستانية المصرية كما شارك في الاجتماع الأول للشبكة الدولية لتمر المجهول الذي نظمته الجائزة بالتزامن مع حفل توزيع جوائز جائزة خليفة الدولية لنخيل التمر والابتكار الزراعي وذلك تحت رعاية معالي الشيخ نهيان ال مبارك آل نهيان وزير التسامح والتعايش ورئيس مجلس أمناء الجائزة.
وقال المهندس حداد : لقد شهدت فعاليات المؤتمرين مشاركة كبيرة من الجانب المصري وعدد كبير من الخبراء والمختصين في زراعة وإنتاج وتسويق التمور وتمور المجهول بشكل خاص من كل من الأردن ومصر وأستراليا والعراق وأمريكا وجنوب أفريقيا وفلسطين والمغرب والمكسيك، وقدم هؤلاء الخبراء أوراق عمل بحثية على مدى يومين في عدة جوانب متعلقة بتجارة التمور الدولية والاستراتيجيات المتعلقة بتمر المجهول في المنطقة العربية والعالم
وتابع قائلا : تمت مناقشة عميقة لأهم التحديات التي تواجه إنتاج وتسويق تمر المجهول والرؤية الاستراتيجية والمستقبلية لهذا الصنف من خلال تنظيم التوسع في زراعته
وأضاف حداد: لقد وصل إنتاج هذا الصنف في العالم إلى ما يتجاوز 143 ألف طن سنويا والكمية مرشحة لزيادات كبيرة بعد دخول المساحات الجديدة في كل من المغرب ومصر والعراق ودول الخليج والمكسيك وأمريكا بالإضافة إلى السودان وجنوب أفريقيا والدول العربية تنتج أكثر من 60 % من هذا الإنتاج ولاسيما وان هناك أكثر من 50 % من كميات تمور المجهول المنتجة يتم تصديرها إلى السوق الدولي .
وفيما يتعلق بأهم التوصيات التي خرج بها المؤتمران قال حداد : هناك مجموعة من التوصيات التي تتعلق بتمور المجهول بالعالم، وكذلك كيفية معالجة التحدي المائي والجودة وأكدت التوصيات على أهمية التوسع في الترويج لهذه التمور التي يعتقد أن أكثر من نصف سكان العالم لا يعرف عنها شيئا من حيث قيمتها الغذائية العالية وقدرتها على تزويد الجسم بالطاقة خاصة في نصف الكرة الشمالي وخاصة في ظل النقص في توفر الغذاء والجوع والفقر الذي يواجه العالم كما أكد ت على أهمية الاهتمام بالفواقد الكبيرة من التمور نتيجة كون العناية بها وزراعتها لاتزال بالطرق التقليدية فيما تسجل الأصناف عالية القيمة تقدما ملموسا في إدارة عمليات الإنتاج بالممارسات الجيدة والرشيدة
