National celebration of the Jordanian date harvest season in the Jordan Valley

Under the patronage of the Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khreisat, the Jordan Dates Association (JODA) organized a special celebration yesterday, Tuesday, to mark the fourth consecutive Jordanian Date Harvest Day. The celebration took place at the Agricultural Engineers Association’s station in the Karameh area of ​​the Jordan Valley, where palm cultivation is concentrated.
The celebration was attended by a number of palm farmers and representatives of official bodies. This annual event has become a national platform to celebrate the year-long efforts of farmers, who have worked tirelessly to produce a distinctive crop that has become a benchmark in global markets.
Jordanian date production this year is estimated at approximately 36,000 tons of the finest date varieties, most notably the world-famous Mejhoul date, along with the Barhi variety and a number of other varieties. A special exhibition was held on the sidelines of the festival, featuring samples of this season’s production, a living testament to the quality of Jordanian dates, which are witnessing increasing global demand due to their distinctiveness and quality.
The area planted with palm trees in the Kingdom has exceeded 50,000 dunams, while the number of palm trees is approaching one million. Jordan’s production is expected to reach more than 50,000 tons in the next few years. Jordan also exports more than 65% of its date production to more than 55 countries around the world.
The Jordanian date sector provides more than 11,000 job opportunities, most of which are for women working in date workshops that employ the latest global technologies in packaging and marketing operations. This makes this sector an important economic lever for the national economy and the agricultural sector.
The festival honored several figures who support the Jordanian date sector as honorary members of the association in recognition of their efforts in enhancing the status of this national product, which has become a leading player on the global market map.

The Jordan Dates Association (JODA) participated in the first international festival of Ethiopian dates at the kind invitation of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation during the period 26-28/8/2025 in Ethiopia. The Jordanian pavilion for dates witnessed a distinguished turnout from visitors to the exhibition.

On Monday, August 11, 2025, the Jordan Dates Association (JODA) participated in the Faculty of Agriculture’s Scientific Day, “Agricultural Sustainability and Food Security in Jordan,” at Jerash University, with broad participation from agricultural sector institutions and companies. JODA was honored for its efforts in developing the agricultural sector, particularly the date palm sector, which has become a lever for the national agricultural economy. The association’s chairman presented a working paper on the palm sector and the gap between the agricultural labor market and graduates of agricultural colleges in the Kingdom.

The Jordan Dates Association (JODA), in coordination with the Civil Defense Directorate, organized a three-day first aid and public safety course at the Jordan Valley Authority’s guest house in Deir Alla. This course aimed to train palm farmers on the most important risks and problems they face on farms. The program included both practical and theoretical training. We extend our sincere thanks to the Civil Defense Directorate for their efforts with the palm farmers and the guest house for their excellent coordination and organization.

Palm Scientific Day in Jordan

The Jordan Dates Association (JODA) and the National Center for Agricultural Research (NARC) organized the Palm Scientific Day in Jordan yesterday, Monday, at the National Center for Agricultural Research (NARC), in the presence of His Excellency the Director General of (NARC), Dr. Khaled Abu Hammour, representing His Excellency the Minister of Agriculture, Engineer Khaled Al-Hunaifat, sponsor of the ceremony. And Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Jordan Dates Association (JODA), Engineer Anwar Haddad, along with a large number of scientists, experts, and palm growers.

The scientific day included an important group of lectures related to the date palm sector and the latest scientific research, techniques, and innovations that were achieved at NARC, where papers were presented in on pests and diseases, irrigation, fertilization, heat cummulation, fruit peeling, types of bags used in palm trees, and research related to modern technologies.

His Excellency, the Director General of NARC, stressed the importance of cooperation with all sub-sectors in agriculture and the Center’s readiness to make more efforts for the sustainability of agriculture. He also praised the palm sector as a promising national sector.

On the one hand, the President of JODA, Engineer Anwar Haddad, stressed the importance of scientific research in raising the level of the sector and the quality of dates. He praised the efforts of the Center in the field of palm trees and thanked all those working in this field. Haddad stressed that the Association and the Center meet on the principle of the scientific approach on which the date palm sector in Jordan was based. He also emphasized the number of challenges facing the date palm sector, which require more applied scientific research. He also stressed that he will work with the center to make the Palm Scientific Day an annual day on which stakeholders meet with the researchers and experts. Haddad thanked the center and its staff for their efforts, and also thanked the audience, which included universities, research centers, and date palm growers in the Kingdom.

At the end of the day, a set of recommendations were agreed upon that will be adopted by both NARC and JODA.
